This is a great recipe because you can 100% control the level of spice you want by simply excluding the spicy ingredients. But if you like a nice kick, I would recommend adding the jalapeño 🌶

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, chopped finely

6-8 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped

1 jalapeño, chopped finely

1 green pepper, chopped finely

1 pound of ground meat

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp chili powder

1 teaspoon ginger powder

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp red pepper flakes

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon bbq sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Heat your pan to medium high heat. Sauté the onions until soft and translucent. Add in the pepper, jalapeño and garlic, sauté until the garlic is fragrant and the peppers start to soften, ~3-4 mins.

Once the veggies are soft, we are going to add all the dry spices other than salt and pepper. This allows for the spices to toast a little and develop more flavor. Once the spices are mixed in, add the ground meat and break it down into whatever consistency you like. I don’t like mine too finely broken, but this is totally your call. Mix until the meat is 3/4 of the way cooked (you will still see some pink but not very much). Add in the soy sauce, Dijon, bbq sauce and ketchup. Stir to combine and let everything come together, ~2 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste here.

I served it on toasted buns with a little spicy mayo (Sir Kensington's is my favorite by far). Enjoy it! It was one of the easiest and tastiest dinners I’ve made in a long time.
