Asian cuisine. It’s savory, it’s sweet, it has umami. It’s just one of those things you crave. This recipe is basically a chicken dumpling without the dough- it’s easy, delicious and on the healthier side. I hope you give it a try!
Ingredients: (makes 10-12 burgers)
3 lbs ground chicken
1 large onion, minced
1 tbsp mirin (optional)
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp dried chives/fresh chives/scallions
4 cloves crushed garlic
2 tsp ginger (fresh or frozen)
2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
3/4 cup panko crumbs
2 beaten eggs
1/4 cup hot water
3/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup sesame oil
.
Directions:
In a frying pan over medium heat, sauté your onion until soft and golden brown. Add in the mirin at the end to add a sweet and savory layer to the onions and cook for additional 2 minutes- this is not necessary if you don’t have it.
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, 2 tbsp sesame oil, chives, garlic, ginger and honey.
In a large bowl, add your ground chicken. Mix in the onions, soy sauce mixture, panko crumbs, eggs and hot water. Once combined, shape into burgers and set aside.
Mix together the hoisin sauce and 1/4 cup sesame oil in a bowl with an egg brush. Brush the top of the burgers.
Heat your grill pan or grill. Place the burgers on the grill, sauce side down. Brush the other side and cook until both sides are golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 165.
Remove from the pan and serve hot. I like to top with a little mayo, red onion and sriracha but you do you! Enjoy!
.
Tips:
Shape all the burgers before grilling them.
Double the recipe and freeze half. This makes for an amazing easy dinner in a pinch.
You can do this with turkey or even beef if you prefer it.
